We would be delighted to welcome your child as a new Scout at Milton. We hope that they enjoy the meetings. We aim to provide interesting and challenging activities in a fun a friendly environment.
We meet every Wednesday at Milton Scout hut from 7pm until 9pm (unless we let you know otherwise)
Scouts are aged 10 and a half to 14
The first few weeks in Scouts is a free trial to get used to the section before making the commitment of becoming a member
You are invested into Scouts almost as soon as you get your Scout shirt. An investiture includes a simple ceremony and the reciting of the Scout Promise. You will be supplied with a necker and all the badges you need to get started – parents are welcome to watch the investiture.
Scouts should turn up in full uniform, dark green shirt and dark trousers (no jeans or stripes) which can be purchased from the National Schoolwear Centre in Hanley
Scouts should not be dropped off unless there is a leader present at the Scout Hut. Scouts are not allowed to walk home alone unless parents have already stated otherwise
During the year we take several walks, often around the local area to get used to map reading and teamwork activities. We take outdoor activities seriously, especially camping, and arrange camps throughout the year. If a Scout is not properly equipped they will have a cold, wet and miserable camp. There are four necessities for camping,
– 2 season sleeping bag – decent waterproof coat – foam roll mat – walking boots
Scouts work toward their Chief Scout Award which is the highest award a Scout can get and is the main aim from when they join to when they move to Explorers. To get this award they have to gain at least 8 challenge badges which include – working in the community, fitness, the Scout Promise, and an expedition planned and walked without leaders, they need to prove they can be self sufficient and responsible. Completing this badge is regarded highly and when a Scout moves to explorers it is a sign they are ready to progress onto their Duke of Edinburgh
